Tip No 2: Caring for your lawn is a year-round job. If you want your lawn to look good or even better than your neighbour's, always keep in mind that ensuring proper turf maintenance is a year-long task. You don't maintain your yard only when the weather is nice. To ensure that your turf will survive the changing of the seasons, you have to make all the necessary preparations.
For instance, autumn is said to be the ideal time to till your lawn and get your Kikuyu turf ready for winter. When spring comes, you also need to take care of your lawn to promote the growth of new grass. And during summer, when temperatures are higher, you have to water your lawn more frequently to prevent it from drying out.
Tip No 3: Let the grass breathe. Aerating your lawn is an important, yet often overlooked, aspect of turf maintenance. When you aerate your lawn, you are basically putting holes into the soil. This allows fresh air and nutrients to reach the roots of the grass. Aside from that, it also helps the grass absorb more water. So let the grasses breathe from time to time. Not only it keeps your turf healthy, it also helps ensure that your lawn will absorb all the nutrients it needs.
Tip No 4: Check your soil's pH level. Before you apply fertiliser on your turf, make sure you determine your soil's pH or acidity level. According to turf maintenance experts, the soil's acidity level can affect the effectiveness of the fertiliser. As such, you should have your soil tested so you can determine the right fertiliser combination you should use.
